Northern Alumni Network Launch 2017 - Event Review

A new network, the Northern Alumni Network, launched at Sheffield University Management School with an evening event on the 10th of May. It proved a great success, with over 40 guests including alumni and staff from across the University in attendance, showing their support and enthusiasm for the new initiative.

Hosted by the Management School, the network welcomes alumni from all graduating years and departments across the University, and particularly those who are based in businesses in the north of the UK or have links with Sheffield and the wider region. May’s event saw alumni from the departments of Law, Engineering, Economics and Management attend, with graduating years ranging from the 1970’s up to the most recent graduates of 2016.

The network is also an opportunity for alumni to come back to the Management School and University, to find out how their businesses can become more involved in the work we do.

Professor Andrew Simpson, Associate Dean for Business Advancement, said: “The Northern Alumni Network is about the School re-engaging with its community. The University has always been a civic institution of the city and part of the city and what we are looking to do is to build those links even deeper.”

After the triumph of the first event, we are planning further activity for the network later in 2017, and we are already engaging with individual alumni who attended and are discussing ways in which we can work together in the future.

If the Northern Alumni Network is something you would like to be involved in, please let us know by getting in touch at mgtalumni@shef.ac.uk. Look out for the next event!
