Since launching in 2018, the prestigious Dean’s List award at Sheffield University Management School has seen an impressive 73 winners from around the world honoured for their employability and social responsibility-related achievements. For the first time, we held a celebration event in honour of all our remarkable winners - an evening dinner at the stunning Firth Court, the first purpose-built building in the history of the University.

The Dean’s List recognises UG and PG masters students at Sheffield University Management School (SUMS) in their final year, for their academic, employability and social responsibility-related achievements since starting at the School.

SUMS Dean's List Winners from all over the UK and the world, spanning twelve countries, were invited to come together in the first event of its kind on Saturday 8 October at Firth Court, Sheffield, to meet, relax, and celebrate with fellow winners and their guests.

On display during the evening was an impressive ‘wall of fame’ showcasing all 73 Dean’s List winners to date, which proved extremely popular with guests!

“It was great to speak with other alumni and to learn all the different paths ex-students have taken – a great evening had by all!”

Georgina Rees, Dean's List Winner, BA Business Management with Employment Experience (2018) Broker at Aon

After giving special congratulations to all our Dean's List winners for their remarkable achievements, our host for the evening Trevor Williams, SUMS' Advisory Board member, and former Chief Economist for Lloyds Bank, welcomed guests to take their places for the evening dinner.

Our guest speaker for the evening was Rebecca Fielding, Founder and Managing Director at Gradconsult, University of Sheffield alumna, BSc Chemistry 2002. Rebecca gave an inspiring talk, reflecting on her expansive career covering all aspects of recruitment, talent management and development, and encouraged guests to maintain a sense of reflection on their own career goals throughout their journeys. Sharing her lessons learnt, Rebecca's advice to the audience was to consider 'What does success look like for you?', not to underestimate the 'power of networking,' and the importance of 'career exploration.'

Trevor ended the evening's talk by adding one of his most notable reflections, saying 'Being kind in business is always remembered.' Guests then finished off the evening with the dinner’s final course and more networking.

“Don't let anyone else's definition of success define yours - think about what success looks like for you.”

Rebecca Fielding, Founder and Managing Director at Gradconsult

“The event was incredible. It was perfectly run, an amazing setting and the food was outstanding. More so, it was nice to have such an alumni event. It was great to get dressed up and return to Sheffield for the weekend.”

Dale Riahi, Dean's List Winner, BA International Business Management (2018), Supervisor Bank of England

As well as winners and their guests, also in attendance on the evening were Professional Services and Academic colleagues from across SUMS and the University Alumni Relations teams, friends from the Sheffield and city region business community including; alumna Elina Thompson, Lloyds Banking Group Plc; Stephen Blakeley, Founder and Partner at 3B Impact; Daniel Fielding, Director at Lantern Risk Services, and Teresa Hitchcock, member of SUMS' Advisory Board and partner in DLA Piper's Sheffield office.

A special thanks to our host Trevor Williams and guest speaker Rebecca Fielding for delivering an entertaining and enjoyable evening. Thank you to every one of our guests and friends who attended and made this special evening a true celebration and to all our Dean's List winners, congratulations!

We’re excited to keep in touch and look forward to meeting more of you in the future.
